MOUNT MERU

MOUNT MERU

The second highest mountain in Tanzania is Mount Meru, an active (but dormant) volcano located north of Arusha. At 4562 metres, Mount Meru is the fourth highest mountain in Africa and is located only 70 km from Kilimanjaro. With incredible views, scenery and wildlife, Mount Meru offers an incredible trek all by itself. The lower reached of Mount Meru are amazingly rich in wildlife with abundant monkeys, warthogs, buffaloes and a wide array of birds. The crater rim walk is a spectacular hike and the lack of crowd adds to the amazing views along with Mount Meru’s big brother Mount Kilimanjaro.

The Perfect Preparation for Kilimanjaro climb:

Mount Meru offers you a great opportunity to “warm up” before you start your journey to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.  With a height of 4562 metres, Mt. Meru requires your body to adapt to the increasing altitude which is a perfect adaptation before a climb on Mount Kilimanjaro.

  • You trek in a group with porters, cook and guides,
  • you climb through different vegetation zones over several days,
  • you start your summit attempt around midnight and reach the peak around sunrise,
